Pemberton Backyard Farm Wedding - Brittny & Ryan
A Backyard Farm Wedding in Pemberton Meadows
Brittny and Ryan’s backyard farm wedding took place across two private properties in Pemberton Meadows. The day was relaxed, personal, and centred around family, open space, and spending time together. Their dog Aspen was part of the day, along with vintage cars that have been in their families for years.
With smoky skies overhead, the light stayed soft all day and gave the photos a muted, natural look.
Getting Ready with Brittny & the Girls
The morning started with Brittny getting ready with her friends. The girls wore matching robes and popped bubbles.
Aspen quickly made herself known, at one point stealing Brittny’s cowboy boots. It set the tone for the day — relaxed, unposed, and full of real moments.
First Look in Pemberton Meadows
Brittny and Ryan shared their first look by a pond on a friend’s private property in Pemberton Meadows. The location gave them privacy and time together before the ceremony.
Nearby was a large willow tree that we used for portraits, both underneath and around it. After their first look, they read their personal vows together in the middle of the field, with Aspen by their side.
Smoky Skies Over Pemberton
Smoke in the sky filtered the sun for most of the day, creating even, diffused light. While visibility was low, it worked well for photos and gave the entire wedding a consistent look from start to finish.
Farm Ceremony with a View
The ceremony took place in another open field, with cows grazing nearby. It was simple, quiet, and very fitting for a backyard farm wedding in Pemberton.
Brittny arrived at the ceremony driven by her dad in her grandad’s old car. It was a meaningful way to include family history before walking down the aisle and a surprise for all the guests.
Cocktail Hour with Burgers & Beers
Cocktail hour was casual, with burgers and beers served from a tractor bucket. Guests mingled and played games - there was no set seating plan, a great way for people to meet others at the wedding.
During this time, Brittny and Ryan stepped away briefly for portraits with two vintage family vehicles — a pink Cadillac and an old Ford pickup. These were some of my favourite portraits of the day.
Speeches, Cake & a Family Heirloom
After cocktail hour, Brittny and Ryan cut their cake and listened to speeches from family and friends. Following the speeches, Brittny’s grandad gave her the keys to the Cadillac, officially passing it on to her.
First Dances at the House
The first dances took place in front of the house, surrounded by guests. It was a simple way to end the formal part of the day before everyone settled into the evening.
Here are a few of my favourite photos from their wedding day!
Brittny & Ryan’s wedding was full of amazing DIY, so not too many wedding vendors were needed!

How to Plan a Backyard Wedding in Pemberton
Planning a backyard wedding in Pemberton starts with choosing the right property. Private land offers flexibility, but it also comes with logistics to consider early. Check local bylaws, noise restrictions, parking options, and access for vendors. Flat ground, nearby power sources, and space for tents or rentals can make a big difference.
Build your timeline around the space rather than forcing a traditional schedule. Backyard farm weddings work best when there’s room to move slowly, stay close to guests, and use the property naturally for different parts of the day. Hiring vendors who are comfortable working on private property is key.
Weather planning is also important in Pemberton. Have a backup plan for smoke, rain, or heat, and consider how light changes across open fields throughout the day. Finally, think about how you’ll use meaningful elements — family land, pets, vehicles, or views — to make the day feel personal.
