Intimate Squamish Wedding | Mike & Melissa

What a year 2020 was! Mike and Melissa originally had their wedding booked for August, with friends and family planning to travel from eastern Canada and the UK. However their plans changed, they initially scheduled a similar date for 2021, but then decided they didn’t want to wait. They ended up organizing a small intimate wedding in Squamish with close friends and a couple of Melissa’s close family attending.

Riverside Wedding Ceremony in Squamish

They planned a small intimate riverside ceremony on a rocky beach below the Stawamus Chief (one of the largest granite monoliths in the world) - a beautiful location surrounded by stunning pacific north-west forest. A really unique setting for an intimate Squamish wedding.

The day before the wedding, Squamish was issued a rainfall warning and the river rose so much it flooded the beach! Luckily by the morning of the wedding, the river level lowered and they could set up in the original location.

On the morning of the wedding, Mike got ready at their house in Squamish - I went there first to capture him getting ready with some of the boys. There were so many thoughtful details - I loved his M & M cufflinks for Mike and Melissa, his initials on his shirt cuffs and their original wedding date embroidered into his suit jacket.
Melissa was getting ready with the girls at a local Airbnb, she messaged me the address and that the door is open and to come on up. When I arrived I couldn’t see a number on the house anywhere, but the house next door was one number off, so I knocked and went in. A woman stood there looking very shocked and quickly told me “I think you have the wrong house” - I was very apologetic and won’t ever assume a house number again!
Melissa wanted to practice reading her vows out loud - so read them out to us all while sitting on the bed - there wasn’t a dry eye in the room, including me - I couldn’t see through my viewfinder after hearing her beautiful words.
While Mike & Melissa were getting ready - some of their friends were at the ceremony location setting up the aisle and a few tents. Inside one of the tents were old family wedding photos hanging and on a table, each guest had a personal glass with their name attached.

The rain held off all morning - but it started as soon as we left the house for the ceremony. As Melissa walked down the aisle with her Mum at her side, Mike was wiping the tears as soon as he saw her! They live-streamed the ceremony with family around the world watching - the new normal in a pandemic wedding world.
Everyone was armed with an umbrella and Mike & Melissa really embraced the rain (Melissa was rocking the rubber boots!), there was dancing and a champagne toast all underneath the majestic Stawamus Chief.
We had originally planned to visit other locations in Squamish for couples portraits but as it was so wet we stayed in one location - I love how the photos turned out - Squamish really is a stunning place for an intimate wedding!

The rain got heavier and heavier but it didn’t put a damper on the day - by looking through Mike and Melissa’s intimate Squamish wedding photos, you can see how beautiful the ceremony was and how much fun everyone had - there was so much smiling going on!
They ended their day with a few close friends and family back at their Airbnb to continue the celebrations into the evening. Congratulations again Mike & Melissa!

Here are some of my favourite photos from their intimate Squamish wedding.
