Engagement Session in Whistler | Nicola & Chris

Engagement Photography in Whistler

Nicola contacted me during the winter months to set up an engagement session in Whistler, unfortunately, the BC government announced more travel restrictions in the area so our plans were on hold for a little while. Then luckily the timing came together and we arranged an early spring photo session to celebrate their engagement.
We met in the Cheakamus neighbourhood and made our way towards the Cheakamus River - a popular kayaking area. The river is stunning with beautiful rock features - it makes for great adventurous engagement photos! We spent some time climbing over rocks and made our way closer to the river.

After spending time in the Cheakamus area we headed up Whistler mountain to the old timing flats used during the 2010 winter Olympics - an area that has really beautiful views of the valley overlooking Creekside village.

The springtime in Whistler can be a little unpredictable with the weather - but Nicola and Chris were lucky to have a beautiful afternoon for their engagement session in Whistler.

I love hearing how couples meet and Nicola was happy to share their story:

We met in the Winter of 2011 at a house party in Richmond B.C. It was the 21st birthday party of a girl I had never even met before. It was a last minute invite to a party I hadn't ever planned on attending. I noticed him from across the room and walked over to him, I grabbed his shirt and made him dance with me. We danced for a couple songs together before going outside to talk. We talked for a bit before I realized the time, leaving just in time to get home by curfew, after all I was just a teenager out on a Saturday night.

Weeks past and I admittedly didn't think often of him or the party. Christmas came and went, as did New Years. In January of 2012 I received a Facebook message from a guy who's name was vaguely familiar. Christopher Cruz. I opened the message and sure enough it was the guy from the party ... the one I had made dance with me that cold winter night.

He said he remembered my eyes and just had to find me. He said he hadn't remembered my name ( I wasn't offended ) and said he had to ask multiple friends and acquaintances from the party until he found me online.

We went on a date, a lunch date to the local White Spot a couple weeks later. He was shorter than I had remembered. He was soft spoken and sweet. We got along and I enjoyed his company while munching on the chicken cesear salad I had chosen to eat that day.

He asked me to be his girlfriend on February 10th, 2012 in a Blendz coffee shop in Downtown Vancouver on a snowy evening after a dinner and movie date. I accepted.

We will be getting married on February 10th, 2022... exactly 10 years after he asked me to be his girlfriend, he will be asking me to be his wife. I plan on accepting.

I’m so happy for these two and wish them all the best for the future.

Here are a few of my favourite photos from their engagement session in Whistler.
